QUESTION OF ALL QUESTIONS: WHAT IS SUSTAINABILITY?
Sustainability: You read the word absolutely everywhere now, don't you? But what exactly does it really mean? We'll tell you what sustainability entails and why it's so important.
NEED FOR CLARIFICATION? THIS IS SUSTAINABILITY!
First of all: facts, facts, facts. So that we can also make sure that we are all on the same level of knowledge. Let's start with a classic - the definition.
Sustainability refers to the considerate use of resources in such a way that the needs of current generations are met without compromising the needs of future generations.
So, we are holding on to the fact that the focus is on the world's limited resources. These should be used wisely and with care, because they are not only important for us, but also for future generations. In this case, resources are not just materials, but also labor, for example.
NOT ALL SUSTAINABILITY IS THE SAME. OR: THE THREE PILLARS
If we take another theoretical look at sustainability, it can be officially divided into three pillars:
-
Environmental sustainability:
This pillar addresses the protection and conservation of the earth's natural resources, such as air, water and soil. -
Social sustainability:
Social sustainability refers to ensuring social justice, equal opportunities, and access to education, health care, and basic needs for all people, regardless of their social status. -
Economic sustainability:
This is about creating an economic system that is stable in the long term without driving resource depletion. Companies should act responsibly and implement sustainable business practices.
As always, reality and theory are not necessarily transferable one to one. In practice, it is not always possible to separate the three pillars so precisely. They are usually interwoven and have fluid transitions. But in the end, the only thing that matters is that something is done in the interests of sustainability.

Did you know ...
that your devices account for between 5 - 10% of your power consumption in sleep mode?
Is your TV or laptop in standby mode instead of switched off? This actually consumes more power than you think!
You can do this:
Switch off devices that you are not using and do not leave them in standby mode. Use multiple sockets with an on/off switch and switch them off when not in use!
